Longtang Lovelyn Daper Is Our Featured Journalist For The Month Of May

Longtang Lovelyn Daper is a News Reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Highland FM Jos. She hails from Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, born to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Daper.

She attended First Baptist Private School Jos for her first leaving certificate and then proceeded to Government Girls College Bokkos for her secondary school certificate. She obtained her first degree in theater art from the University of Jos and her second degree in conflict and management studies.

Longtang has worked with Plateau Radio Television Corporation Jos as a Contract Artiste before joining the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN as a Presenter and she has been in the job for 8years.

On beats she has covered she said ‘Children, Governance, Current Affairs, PWD’s and News reading’ the favorite of all beats centers on children.

On what inspired her into journalism in her words ‘I’ve always seen the need for the children of the world to be heard and have better lives. Journalism is one of the immediate channels i can advocate and be a voice for the child and the less privileged in the society.

Her experiences so far she said ‘it’s been fun, interesting, stressful but life giving profession. Journalism has given me the courage to stand anywhere and express my views. It has made me versatile by knowing a little about almost everything. I have connected with people on different levels and i have a unique style. In presentation, i set out to leave my listener cheerful and fulfilled, This feeling extends to me, which in turn makes me see life differently and stay positive at all times’.

Challenges so far, Langtong said Social Media and its spread of fake news have affected the profession in a bad way. Content writers on these platforms give out sensitive information without thinking of how negatively it may affect people.

On what keeps her going is the fact that she goes to bed with a smile on her face knowing that she has impacted a life. Waking up every day knowing someone will listen to her on radio and she might impact their lives.

  1. Any regrets so far? None… Every good and bad experience has shaped me into who i am today and also brought me this far.
