In line with its press freedom interest, AMDF has introduced an annual media Lecture series with a focus on journalism practice and press freedom – and wish to name it after Mr. James Bagauda Kaltho, a Nigerian Investigative Journalist, who disappeared in mysterious circumstances in 1996. This is with a view to always keep in our memories what Bagauda Kaltho stood for during his lifetime as journalist.
Mr. Kaltho represents many of the journalists who died or disappeared in line of duty in Nigeria and Africa in general.
Immortalising Mr. Kaltho through the Lecture Series falls in line with AMDF’s resolve to uphold the tenets of press freedom and promoting ethical journalism, both in Nigeria and Africa at large.
The Annual Media Lecture Series examines varying issues that impact on media practice in Africa, as well as its role in shaping democracy.
AMDF believes the Lecture Series will continue to serve as compendium and assist media professionals in finding bearing, as well as contribute to the body of knowledge on democracy and human rights.
