
The Chairman Kajuru Local Government Area (LGA) in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria, Mr Ibrahim Gajere has pledged his support towards ending Gender Based Violence in the LGA.
The Chairman made the commitment at an Advocacy visit by the project team of Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF), on Tuesday 24th January, 2022, at his office, Musa Toro Secretariat of Kajuru LGA of Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.
He welcomed the project team and assured them of his unwavering support towards the implementation of the project.
The Project Manager Yunana Benjamin Maigari, thanked the Council Chairman for receiving members of the team despite his tight schedule.
He also congratulated the Chairman for his victory at the LG polls and wished him a fruitful tenure.
Maigari told the Chairman that the team which had made similar visit to his immediate predecessor, came with some members of the Community Based Action Volunteers (COMBAV) who were selected from the 6 project communities and inaugurated in October 2021 to serve as advocates to end Gender Based Violence (GBV).
“The purpose of the visit is to intimate you on the project and also seek your support in preventing violence within your domain” he said.
To practically demonstrate his commitment, Mr. Gajere mandated his wife, Mrs Asabe Gajere to work with the team towards achieving the desired objectives of the project.
The Chairman also assured the COMBAV team of his support in the prevention of the GBV especially against women and girls.
He described gender based violence as a crime against humanity.
Mr. Maigari was optimistic that the State Government would formulate a policy establishing and recognizing the work being carried out by the COMBAV team.
The organization is working with support from Rise Up, a project of the Public Health Institute of John Hopkins University with funding from Cummins inc.
