Zhiroh Jairus Jatau

As Programme Officer – Press Freedom, Zhiroh plays a crucial role in advocating for and promoting free and independent media in Africa – fostering an environment where the media can thrive – part of AMDF’s broad objective of defending journalists’ rights and ensuring media freedom.

Her primary responsibilities involve campaigning for the release of imprisoned journalists, organizing workshops on media ethics and safety for journalists, conducting studies on press freedom violations and censorship, and working closely with journalists, media outlets, legal experts, and human rights organizations to achieve set goals.

Before joining AMDF, Zhiroh worked as a journalist with Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC), Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC), and Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) Owerri, all in Nigeria.

She holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in mass communication, from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and University of Jos, respectively.
