7th Bagauda Kaltho Media Lecture

The Annual Bagauda Kaltho Media Lecture serves as a significant platform for engaging with the critical and evolving issues that impact media practice across Africa. It provides a reflective space for media professionals, academics, policymakers, and civil society to examine the media’s role in shaping and sustaining democratic ideals on the continent.
Organized by the Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF), the Lecture Series is envisioned as a growing compendium of thought leadership and dialogue. AMDF believes that the series will not only help media practitioners find direction in a rapidly changing landscape, but also contribute meaningfully to the broader body of knowledge on media, democracy, and development.
The theme for the 2025 edition is: “Journalism in Turbulent Times: Navigating Through the Pressures.”
This theme reflects the increasing complexities and challenges facing journalism today — from political interference, economic constraints, and technological disruption, to threats against press freedom and journalist safety.
The 2025 lecture will explore how journalists can remain resilient, uphold ethical standards, and continue to serve the public interest amidst these mounting pressures.
