AMDF Set To Launch Africa-Wide Press Freedom Tracker – Africa Media Development Foundation

Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) says it has concluded plans for the virtual launch of its Africa-Wide Press Freedom Tracker, a database of Press Freedom violations in Africa, covering a period of over 30 years.

To this end it has sent out a notice inviting media development organisations, journalists, rights activists, CSOs, NGOs, and other press freedom stakeholders to the virtual launch.

According to the Executive Director of the Organisation, Iliya Kure, “the Tracker provides information on arrests, attacks, harassments, imprisonment and deaths of journalists on issues related to their work.”

He said the Tracker “is meant to serve as source of useful information to press freedom advocates and researchers among other users. The Tracker is specific on names of affected journalists, nature of incidences, dates of incidence and culprits of such acts.”

He added that the virtual launch will hold on Tuesday 29th September, 2020 @10am GMT
