Nigeria: CAC Registers Professional Bloggers Body

The Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN,) a body of bloggers set up to regulate the activities of blogging in Nigeria has been registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

In a statement on Wednesday, Helen Ozor, acting publicity secretary of the body, said though the registration took long, it was received with applause.

She said the association had set up various committees to mobilise more bloggers to join the group.

Ozor quoted Chris Kehinde Nwandu, interim president of the association, as saying that the purpose of the group is to set a “standard for the practice of blogging in Nigeria as well as formulate policies aimed at engaging major stakeholders, government functionaries, and the public”.

Nwandu also said the group “will also see to the fact that the practice of blogging is not abused or used as an avenue to blackmail or settle scores among individuals”.

Femi Adeoya of Skytrend News is secretary of the association while Nelly Agwu of Indepth is treasurer.

“The ethics committee that will oversee the activities of members an behaviours will be headed by Adrian Egonu of Naija Car Lovers Blog,” the statement read.

“Also, the committee that will encourage more members to join the association will be headed by Laila Ijeoma of Lailasblog.”
