Nominate Journalists, organizations or institutions that promote press freedom worldwide for a US$25,000 award.

The UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize will recognize a significant contribution to press freedom. This Prize was established by UNESCO’s Executive Board, in 1997, in honour of Guillermo Cano, a Colombian journalist who died in the exercise of his profession. Its purpose is to reward each year a person, organization or institution that has made a notable contribution to the defense and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially if risks have been involved.

Member states, international/regional organizations or professional/nongovernmental organizations working in the field of journalism and freedom of expression can nominate up to three candidates.

The recipient will be recognized during the World Press Freedom Day ceremony to be held on 3rd May, in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Nominations must be submitted in English or French and include a brief biography or history of the nominee.

The deadline for submission is Feb. 15, 2017.
