Ibrahima Yakubu is AMDF 2017 Journalist of the Year

Ibrahima Yakubu reports for Deutsche welle radio “German international radio” from Kaduna North West, Nigeria.

He hails from Kabo Local Government area of Kano state in North West Nigeria; Ibrahima is a graduate of Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism among many other qualifications in languages.

As a journalist, he has carved a niche for himself in covering under-served communities with little or no government presence. His reports have attracted interventions for reported communities.

His reports have also earned him a number of local and international awards amongst them the following: Bleeders’ pen award 2015 by Haemophilia Foundation of Nigeria, Africa Media Development Foundation Courage in Journalism Award 2016, People’s pride award 2009 by African Youth for conflict resolution and the Peace journalist award 2010 by Network of Peace & Inter-Religious Organization in Senegal. He was also the first winner of the contest to cover the 10th Annual Conference of the Haemophilia Foundation of Nigeria.

Ibrahima has attended so many courses in and outside Nigeria among which are: Deutsche welle radio, Bonn German; Voice of America training workshop in Nigeria, and International Diploma in creative writing by Writers’ International Organization.

“I have attended so many Capacity building by African Media Development Foundation, I also attended additional  6 months intensive creative writing course  by network of African environmental journalists, and so many other workshop and training for journalists on media ethic and value in some parts of Africa”, he said.

Ibrahima speaks many languages and is a part-time Lecturer at International Institute of Foreign Languages Barnawa, Kaduna state. He is a radio presenter, a member of Developmental Reporters in Africa and member of African climate reporters in Africa.

He also freelances for a number of news outlets among which is the Africa Prime News.

“I love reading, writing, travelling, listening to Rap Music, Rock and Reggae”, he said.
